Last chance to enter a team into the East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival in Lowestoft on Saturday 31st August

With just a few weeks to go until the annual East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival takes place on Oulton Broad in Lowestoft, there’s still time to get your team together and join over 20 companies and organisations on the start line.

The Dragon Boat Challenge on Saturday 31st August is always one of the highlights of the regional calendar and no previous experience is needed to take part, just plenty of team spirit and enthusiasm. Don’t worry if you think winning is out of the question as medals and trophies are awarded for the top three crews, top mixed crew and the ‘best dressed’ crew (as fancy as possible!).

Amongst the new and returning crews that have already booked their places are QD Stores, Lovewell Blake, Netmatters, OneLife Suffolk, Colosseum Dental, Associated British Ports, Scottish Power Renewables, James Fisher Marine Services, Grosvenor Casino and Continental Product Engineering. Festival sponsor Warner Leisure Hotels will also have four teams battling it out this year, with local teams from Corton and Gunton Hall being joined by crews representing their hotels in Newark and North Wales.

The colourful 30’ dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment are provided by race organisers, Gable Events, and each crew is guaranteed a minimum of three races. All crews have the option to raise sponsorship for a favourite charity and St Elizabeth Hospice, RNLI Lowestoft Lifeboat and Centre 81 are just three of the local good causes set to benefit.

The Festival, supported by Lowestoft Journal, promises a fantastic day for competitors and spectators alike with children’s rides and plenty of food and drink for all the family on the bankside. There will be a race every 10-15 minutes from 11.30am and the climax of the Festival this year will be a spectacular flypast by a Battle of Britain Spitfire scheduled for 3.30pm. Entry is free to spectators and there is ample ‘pay and display’ parking available.

With the help of many generous supporters, we can provide funds so that our local hospitals can offer the very best care day after day, year after year.”
