2012 Event

Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today - as well as the most fun! Up to 10 people paddle each 30’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!

Gable Events has joined with St Elizabeth Hospice to bring you the seventh East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival. Taking place on Sunday 27th May 2012 at Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, the Dragon Boat Festival is open to everyone and over 40 teams are expected to battle it out over the 200m race course, watched by several thousand spectators.

With plentiful on-site parking, great facilities and ample land space for viewing and side activities, Oulton Broad and Nicholas Everett Park offer a superb venue for the Festival. As well as the colourful and exciting races, a wide range of continuous bankside entertainment including funfair, inflatable games, children's activities, food stalls and bar guarantee a fabulous day for all the family!

St Elizabeth Hospice is a charity dedicated to helping people living with a progressive illness and supporting their families. It provides services free of charge in Suffolk and has expanded its services into Waveney and Great Yarmouth. It provides day care services in Lowestoft, Beccles, Ditchingham and Ipswich. It also provides services in the community and in people’s homes. There is an inpatient unit at Ipswich.

St Elizabeth Hospice relies on fundraising events such as the Dragon Boat Festival, individual and corporate donations and the income generated from its shops.

The Hospice also relies on volunteers who help out in all aspects of the hospice.
